Start9 electrs update reverts to bitcoin core

I just gave it a try, and looks like the downgrade itself fails. Electrs has implemented a new indexing scheme in 0.12.0 which is a one-way upgrade (cannot go back once upgraded without redoing the index which defeats the purpose).

So the options are don’t upgrade electrs (if you haven’t already), switch to Fulcrum (2 days or so to re-index), switch to Bitcoin Core (no thanks), or wait for me to get Knots updated to 31.1 (should be by end of week)

Okay that makes sense and has its important points for sure. What about this other possible solution. Cant I just take my start9 back to 0.3.5.1 and pre-RDTS knots and run that until your knots version is online for 0.4.0.1? If the older start9 version gets the job done for me that seems like I get the best of both worlds until I can do 0.4.0.1 with your knots?

Not easily. That would be a restore from backup process, which is considerably more work than upgrading.

Back up as in all my old data, right? But what if the only data I need is onchain? Does that make it any easier? All I was running was knots and electrs.

Restoring from backup to the old StartOS version will require repeating the IBD and electrs index. I think if you are going to wait for a couple days syncing things anyway, wouldn’t uninstalling electrs and running Fulcrum instead be the simpler route?

Hi, Mr.Paul

Pls let us know once you have successfully get Knots updated to 31.1.

Always Great Works & Good Manner of you.

God Bless You & Family.

Thanks, Sir.

Hi, Sir

I wonder if you have updated Knots to 31.1, or maybe I’ve missed something here.

I can not find it in Paulcode registry.

Kindly advice, Sir.

Thanks.

it will be available to install when available from paul’s registry however there are work arounds so why the hurry?

Hi,Sir… work arounds, means?

workaround = use Fulcrum

Fulcrum connect to bitcoin knots pre-rdts?

Since I can not find Knots in Start9 Registry. Start9 Registry now only has Bitcoin Core.

Start here: My official Start9 registry, this will allow you to run both chains for knots, fulcrum for SHA256 and Electrs-Pruned for Blake2B

For someone that uses Electrs to connect to a wallet, what options are available, is whiching to core the only one, are there other ways to connect a wallet to a nude , would it be difficult to switchback to core ,

Ok, Sir. I will try it. Thanks a lot.

The options currently are:

  1. Switch to Fulcrum, and connect your wallet to it instead of Electrs
  2. Switch to Core
  3. Wait for me to release my fork of Knots

Sorry for the delay, but I’ve been in Jury duty the last couple of weeks, and since it is further from my home and I have commitments for my job as well, I have had very limited time in the evenings to work on my tools. I’ve been a bit focused on getting Lightning Fork out, so that has been consuming a lot of my time. I probably have taken on a few too many projects than I should have, so that is contributing to slow progress.

No problem , I was not sure what my options where , is Fulcrum a community app on start9 and the same on umbrel too , I run both nodes on different devices , I was also running to bitaxe miners , since the split I not sure if they are still connect , I was solo mining and they were connected to my wallets using datum, I set them up watching your video a while back, what has changes for there setup since the split , do you plan running some videos explaining new setups for those of us that are not real techy , but can follow instruction fairly well

Yes, I do have a few videos planned. I consider a Lightning node as part of a “full stack” bitcoin setup, so that is why I have been obsessing over getting it ready. I want the first video to demonstrate how to set up a full stack for both chains on a single server (which I think is how most folks are using my tools currently)

great sounds interesting , would a nice setup, as far as using fulcrum , should I uninstall Electrs first and install fulcrum, using fulcrum simular to using Electrs, and it will work with knotsprerdts:29.3:28

nah; electrs can just sit there stopped - its index will not be used - an entirely new index will need to be built by Fulcrum and I would give it a few days to do so. Within Fulcrum you will need to point to knots - just check where electrs was pointing and point there with Fulcrum within settings. Fulcrum did not make breaking changes so it still works hense that is why its the recommended alternative.

You are such an extraordinary person,Sir. Salute.

Thanks as always & Take Care, Sir.

Will wait for your fork of Knots (No.3), since I dont want to switch to core (No.2).

I have download Fulcrum (No.1), but dont know which Knots (in which registry) that I should connect to, as the version seems like uncompatible.
