who is this guy and is it accurate?
Pretty sure this guy is confusing Core with Libre Relay, but I actually happen to have the code for Core checked out on my computer for a project I’m working on, so I’ll check if they’ve added anything like that.
There is nothing in Bitcoin Core which filters out Knots peers.
I did a broader search for software that bans Bitcoin Knots peers (since he says here that “there is software for Bitcoin Core”, not that it is part of Bitcoin Core). My guess is he is talking about this bash script here which one would run on a scheduler, where it checks what peers you are connected to, and if any are Knots, it adds them to the ban list.
Another possibility (not technically software) is aeonBTC’s Knots Banlist here. This is a drop-in config with a maintained list of known Bitcoin Knots nodes. One would go pull changes periodically from the repo and drop it in to ban all collected Knots peers.
A third possibility (unlikely, I think, since it is old news) is that he is talking about RoninDojo, which has logic to ban Knots nodes, as announced here.
And, of course, he could be talking about Libre Relay, as I mentioned (not really Core banning Knots peers, but rather a Core fork banning peers that are a Knots fork)
Thanks for looking into this Paul. Seems like a FUD response to knots.
