Start9 node with both SHA-256 and BLAKE2B chains

This is a helpful thread! I am currently syncing Knots on a Mac Mini using VM machine (thanks to Paul’s videos). However, the IBD is syncing very slowly once hitting around 60% with just 2% syncing daily over a couple of days. Restarted yesterday and rebooted but only up around 2% again today. Wondering if I can run two nodes on the same server using VM?

What are the host and VM specs (memory in particular), and what type of storage?

It’s the Mac Mini 2018 with 64GB ram and 2TBSSD, I’ve been posting about on other threads, made a jump up by 5% today to 70% synced. I think I am on day 5 of the IBD.

Oh, that’s right. I forgot if you mentioned this already, but how much RAM did you give to the VM, and how much did you keep for the host?

Oh good question! It looks like 16GB and 4 out of 8 CPUs. We probably should have assigned more!

In Virtual Box it is saying 8 GB of ram is being used out of 64GB

Ok, so you gave the VM 8GB when you set it up, correct? If so, then stop StartOS, stop the VM, and then edit the configuration to give it 56GB of RAM. If you use the Mac for other things and you think you’ll need more than 8GB, then you can configure the VM to use 48GB instead. The more RAM you give, the faster the IBD will go (but don’t take more than the host needs, or then it will slow down again – it is sort of a balancing act).

Thank you, Paul! We went to Virtual Box, hit stop, then went to settings, motherboard, and changed it to 16GB, it jumped up 1% since then, which is already a big improvement. It sounds like we could allocate much more RAM. Those reference points are helpful
