Looks like my S11s won’t arrive in time for day-one mining, so I’m looking to rent BLAKE2b hash temporarily.
Does anyone know of a legit rental provider that has compatible BLAKE2b/Sia ASIC hash and allows us to point the rented miners at our own Stratum/DATUM endpoint?
I currently have the BLAKE2b Knots node synced on testnet4 and will be setting up DATUM next. I’m looking for something that will work for the mainnet launch until my hardware arrives.
Has anyone actually tested a rental provider with this setup, I’d especially like to know which one and what configuration you used.
It looks like PyBLØCK’s BLAKE2b rental will use PyBLØCK’s own Stratum and mine directly to the Bitcoin address we provide, rather than letting us point the rented hash at our own DATUM gateway. I’m I right on that?
Has anyone here actually used PyBLØCK’s hashrate rental before? Any issues? They are 100% legit?
I have the same question. I’ve set up Knots + datum now on umbrel (Blake2b), but don’t know how to point the rented hash to datum. (The previous HashGG via playit.gg doesn’t work) Any help appreciated!
I’ll have an updated version of HashGG (and Pickhash, if you use it) out soon. I am in the process of working out some bugs with it. I’ll post an update soon. I have a lot of irons in the fire, so that’s why I may seem to be moving slowly on some of this. The silver lining is that I’ll eventually be dropping a flood of new tools (and I’ll have enough material for several YouTube videos)
It is probably wise to wait a few days for the market to stablize. The demand is going to pull in a lot more rig owners and create competition, which should drive the rental prices down.
It is a complex system, though, so don’t assume that is how it will play out. Everyone renting the hashrate also has their own internal valuation of BTC on the BLAKE2b chain, and that too will be volatile until the market converges on some value. If demand for BTC on the new chain is higher than the current stock of ASICs can supply (and not enough people are willing to trade their stack), then the rig rental prices could actually go up, not down, until the manufacturers see the opportunity and begin mass-producing more of them to fill the demand.
I’ve not really been plugged in. I’ve been heads down making sure my BLAKE2b-related apps ready for Sep 1 (the early rehearsal was a bit of a curve ball for me). The Discord is probably a good place to check, unless anyone else here knows.
Technically nothing is locked in until final release but so far RC4 worked without issue, RC5 was just released hours ago and currently there’s no plan to reorg the chain. So we are already live unless something happens that impedes final release (expected tomorrow).
