Over the past few days I’ve noticed a relatively high increase in Core v31 and a drop in Knots node connections to my nodes. Is that a general observation by others or am I alone in this?
My node is listening on tor only.

Could just be random, but I wonder if is a combination of Knots node runners either being fed up with the network and shutting off their nodes, or many people still running BIP-110 version of Knots, which will not be preferred by a pre-RDTS version of Knots (since it doesn’t have data on the heaviest chain). It is an interesting dynamic – complex systems often behave in counter-intuitive ways when they get perturbed.

It could also be the fact that Luke and co will no longer be maintaining Knots so at this point, there’s no point in running Knots anymore. As Core gets patched, Knots will not so it’s prudent to eventually transition back to Knots unless developers fork the Knots repo and start maintaining it.
Knots will continue on the legacy chain side of the divide, just not maintained by Luke. As many devs as we have in our cohort, I would be shocked if nobody else steps up to lead that effort (and whoever does, I will join to contribute). If nobody else does, then I will be the maintainer.

At this stage I don’t know what to run on the Start9 server.
Core is no option IMO it is rotten.
What remains is Knots RDTS or -preRDTS?
Somebody shines some light on this?
Can we run both simultainiously?
Currently, you can run only one version of Knots on Start9. But after the hard fork, I imagine Start9 will not write them to be interchangeable packages (since the new Knots will no longer be compatible with the existing Lightning network, the old Datum Gateway and Public Pool services, etc). I’m not sure how Start9 will handle this, but I imagine they’ll probably separate them, which would allow installing both (if you have enough disk space). But if not, it is a simple tweak to build a version of either that can co-exist with the other.
WRT the legacy chain, I’ll be starting a fork of Knots in the coming weeks if nobody else steps up to the plate. I’ll try and reach out to Matt Hill when I’m ready, to see what his thought are about me taking over the listing on the official Start9 Registry or (more likely) if he prefers I prove it out on the Community Registry for a year or so to see where things settle in the nodes landscape long term.
