I’ve been getting very high rejection rates lately (>3%) and I’m trying to rootcause the issue. I’ve already disabled the VPN my Umbrel was going through and that may have improved it a bit but it’s still not as low as I’d like and so the next option is to try an alternate proxy server.
Do you guys have any recommendations for alternatives to playit.gg? I’m using Umbrel so the Start9 tunnel is not an option. I have Tailscale on the Umbrel but I’ve heard that the Tailscale Funnel feature may not be good for this due to it’s undisclosed speed/bandwidth cap.
HashGG also supports connecting through a VPS. I think the cheapest option (€6 / mo ~ $7 / mo) which can be acquired anonymously and paid for in Bitcoin is btcvps.com. I’m actually just setting up to record my HashGG video, and instructions for this will be included.
Hmm that’s more than double the price. Is there a VPS you recommend that’s may not accept bitcoin but is more affordable while still being reliable and easy to spin up? I can always just use bitrefill to pay with BTC for services that don’t natively support BTC.
I haven’t tested them for uptime, so you will need to experiment to see, but BuyVM.net has some good prices. The SLICE 512 option, for example, is $24 / yr (cheaper than Playit.gg, but billed yearly instead of monthly) SLICE 1024 is $3.50 / mo, so a bit higher than Playit.gg but comparable.
BTW, if they work and you are able to pay with something like the digital pre-paid VISA from Bitrefill, post an update, since that will be a good option for the privacy-minded folks. Also note if they require a real phone number or just an email for account verification.
I just found these guys: Cloudzy.Com which look like they also accept Bitcoin, and charge $3.22 / mo for their lowest cloud VPS. I wasn’t able to get the BTC payment to work (the page has a CORS error blocking cross-origin requests with api.cloudzy from panel.cloudzy), but might be worth checking the bitrefil option, if BuyVM.net doesn’t pan out.
3% - really should not be a big impact…but that’s coming from someone who’s rejection ratio is 0.20%. Most consistent route for me is a Datacenter in Germany. What are your routes?
Yes, currently that screen shot reflects that but there is also a server in Cali, Columbia that is very solid routing for me as well.
Edit: It might be possible that my tcp/ip protocol path is 100% optical switching from end to end as I do have a 3gig up/down optical provider to premise and I’m pretty sure paths for transcontinental have no copper in the route now-a-days as well OCEAN is optical as well. Just a thought.
