Hi everyone!
I just joined paulscode and wanted to share the Bitcoin topics I’m working on/interested in. I became aware of Paul’s work through Matthew Kratter’s Bitcoin University. Like most here, I’m dedicated to fighting for Bitcoin’s success as a global P2P digital payments system and share the frustration with our current fiat money system, as well as the exploitative ecosystem that has developed around Bitcoin.
Here are the topics I look forward to discussing:
- Research Paper on Semantic Information
I have been working on a theoretical research paper on semantic information. The aim of the paper is to mathematically define semantic information and from there, derive the conditions to reduce error rate. The practical implication is that one can then assess current systems or design a new system in the context of functionality, user reach, censorship, etc with much more precision and understanding than current heuristics and engineering debates allow.
My motivation for the project came from my frustration in the ambiguity around this topic - E.g. Signal, Telegram, Nostr, etc, are these systems truly resistant to censorship at various scales, and why/why not? - as well as the lack of progress addressing the problem itself - Web5, Bitchat, etc. are all insufficient IMO.
I hope that the results of the project encourage the creation of communication networks that allow online Bitcoin commerce that cannot be disrupted by any authority, therefore creating an organic incentive for wide adoption that goes beyond intellectual enthusiasm. I believe this could be a nice side swipe against our opponents in the ongoing struggle to keep Bitcoin sufficiently decentralized.
This project has been the main focus of my life for about 1.5 years and I’m excited to share the results.
- BIP110 Post Mortem and Hard Fork Analysis
I agree with Paul on some elements of this, disagree on others. For example, I don’t think one can ever compare a separate coin to a Bitcoin fork, even if that separate coin did not have a premine. I am probably more cautiously optimistic about the new proof of work, but do think it’s a long shot.
I am interested in Pauls proposal for safe nodes but need to vastly improve my understanding to help on that.
- Learning Linux and Software Development Improvement
After I finish my paper, I’m excited to bolster my tech skills! It’s something I’ve always wanted to be more proficient in. I code in Python and C++ but not professionally. I am looking forward to ramping up my knowledge.
