I set up my friends CC MK IV last year using a multi word passphrase for protection. We tested the PF rigorously and did trial transactions so I know my records are correct. I now cant generate the MF I produced last year because I put a space between words but I cant identify which key stroke produces a space. I checked with chatgpt and chat is even more confused than i am. Has anyone here used a space with a passphrase on the MK iv? Chat suggested inputting just the number 4 to create a space but that doesn’t work at all
The ASCII code for Space is 0x20. The process should be:
- Select “Edit Phrase”
- Move to where the space should be (enter a word, etc)
- Press “3” for the Symbols menu
- The first symbol should be the Space. In the UI, it draws it like a bottom edge rather than a blank space, but above it you can see that the UI shows the code is 0x20 which is Space.
Thanks Paul I now have the space inserted however my issue is a little more serious as even when correctly entered the MF i am generating from the CC is different from the original. Do you have time for a quick telegram call to discuss?
From the discussion, my recommendation is to rule out that a different seed phrase might have somehow ended up on the MK4. Use your other MK4 and wipe the seed phrase from it. Then enter the seed phrase you have backed up for the wallet that you are having a problem with. Once it is on there, then enter the passphrase and compare the master fingerprint with Sparrow. If it matches, then that confirms that a different seed phrase somehow ended up on the MK4 (which would be a whole other can of worms).
If the master fingerprints still don’t match, then that would indicate either a problem inputting the passphrase on the MK4, or a bad backup. Since you tested thoroughly, I doubt the latter. A way you can check the former is to use one of your CCQ’s (since they have a full keyboard). Make sure the seed phrase on the CCQ is backed up, wipe it, then enter the one you are having troubles with. Once it is on there, then enter the passphrase and compare with Sparrow. If it matches this time, then you know the issue is something with the MK4 interface.
