Two Trigkey N100's. Start9 on both. How to run Datum on both machines

Watched it - great idea - have ordered the Stream Pro and 2 x 450W panels. Can’t wait to set it up on the shed roof and plug the miners in. I’ll have them under smart plug control so I can have them on a timed schedule if necessary - winters coming and the system might not hack 24/7 operation.

Thanks for the YouTube link, I’d never have found them otherwise. Apparently they’re a big hit in Germany as they can be plugged into the house mains thus saving money by not drawing from the grid.

Just been looking at https://docs.megalithic.me/lightning-services/dealing-with-minimum-channel-sizes/#the-megalith-node-for-small-channels and it says " THE MEGALITH NODE (FOR SMALL CHANNELS)

This node accepts channels as small as 150,000 SATS, and is well connected to the “big” Megalith node, so it should work great for sending and receiving payments."

How did you get on with 100,000 sats?

Edit: some time later.

Tried to open with 140,000 sats but it refused citing a minimum of 150,000, so I retried with that and it’s now “pending open”, so :slightly_smiling_face:

…a short while later…channel now alive (on CLN) so can pool mine via Datum to Ocean

per Paul’s definition (" *Datum Gateway

  • Can be used as a Datum Pool Mining service (interacts with the OCEAN pool)

Proof of the pudding will be if sats go via Bolt12 to the CLN node.

Um…I cant find that model on the US Amazon store? Can you share the link so I can cross reference please

Hi Greg, I didn’t get them from good old Amazon, but from the EcoFlow store here in England. Here’s the link to the US store
Ecoflow
Looks like they’re cheaper on your side of the pond too!

Thanks for the link but crazy. I can’t buy it:

Due to restrictions under the H.B. 340 Solar Power Amendments, this product is only available for sale and plug-and-play installation in Utah.

I don’t live in Utah…whats up with that sh*t America? Oh I know…We are not “FRee” here…just an illusion that they “sell” to us.

A package forwarding service may be an option (though the extra cost might reduce its usefulness in this particular context). For example, from a quick search: Utah Registered Agent (do your homework, of course)

What a bummer! I thought the US was the “Land of the free!”. Time to write to your rep in the Senate or House. Strangely, where I live (Stamford) seems to attract a lot of folks from Salt Lake City - can’t be for the sunshine though! (pouring down as I write this)

Yea…I thought about that. I actually know someone in Utah also…but I don’t want to drive 16hr round trip. Cost prohibitive.

I sure would like to cut down on electric cost for these miners but I just don’t think portable units would be effective. To go whole house would be in the range of 30K to…if I were young that might not be bad but it would take 25 years to re-coup costs. Just not worth it at my age.

As of now I only run in off peak hours at 0.077 per kWh…which is pretty cheap…1900 kWh a month is around 160$ or so…just about break even at the moment. In a few years when BTC is above 170K I might show profit for what Ive mined now…but of course the cost of energy will do nothing but climb.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You know what I mean.

Nearly worked. Ocean failed to send sats…

I made a new Bolt12 offer so I’ll see if it works next time Ocean pays out, when ever that’ll be, in the next few hours I guess.

Sorry if this is tedious to folks, but it might help others one day who run into a similar snag.

Still failing at Ocean’s end with this error

I’ve tried paying to my CLN node from my mobile phone Phoenix wallet with the mobile not connected to WiFi, so it’s going via the 5G network, and it all works fine, very quickly, whether it’s BOLT11 or BOLT12

Looks like I’ll have to email Ocean and see what they have to say.

So exactly what is your issue? From what I gather you added Megalithme(small channels) to Core correct? And you have no payment route correct?

If you’ve read any of these threads Core just isn’t the greatest that’s why Paul dropped his Core channel.

But listen…if you do all of this from LND and then open your own channel to Core from LND you will have much better success. At least I and another user here had a better experience with that route. Have you tried that?

Paul is the GOAT for sure and does know the nuts and bolts better than I but there is a better way than he showed in his original video where he used Core only. You should not have had to recreate the Blotz12 offer. The problem isn’t OCEAN…the problem is the way you have it setup.

Again…did you read how we have LND and Core setup?

Hi Greg, thanks for the response. I know Paul said that LND is the way to go with CLN not being great at routing, but when I first started mining via Datum, I set it up with only one CLN channel, and that was to Pauls node and never had a problem. But, after he closed it I opened a CLN channel with Megalithme (small channels) and have had no luck at all. Surprising as it has lots of connectivity, and as I mentioned BOLT 11 and BOLT 12 work really well and v quick sending Sats from my Phoenix phone wallet. CLN is set up properly, and my miner reports pings as low as 5ms (but that could be just to my Start9 server, not Ocean). Maybe it is due to CLN routing issues. I’ve emailed Ocean asking what’s up.

Do you think I should open an LND channel with Paul? This is where I’m a bit confused - will the Sats go via this LND node then onwards in one hop to the CLN node? As Pauls node won’t be as well connected as Megalithme, why should this improve things, or is CLN routing really that bad?

Thanks,
Rob

I don’t use Paul’s node at all. The 2 images below are my two lightning nodes, LND and Core.

The two Megalith’s, bcjedi_lnd and start-16xxx-ae0q4 are my LND peer/channels

The start-16xxx-ae0q4 in LND is the channel I opened from LND to Core. In the Core snapshot the channel GrrocksLND is the same channel as start-16xxx-ae0q over in LND. Those 2 channels are one in the same. Follow?

The bcjedi_lnd peer/channel is the other user here on the forum. It’s our routing channel. He has a similar setup to me but he uses different channels in LND…I think he might use MegaLithme and Pauls LND. Not exactly privy to his setup so take what I say about his setup in LND with a grain of salt for now.

MegaLithme (small channels) appears to play a role with the other user on this forum more so than it does me. Not sure why but that’s what he reports. The MegaLith LSP is used in circular re-balances for his channel from my end. I try to keep him balanced at 1 but at times it’s a challenge. Sometimes he has to finish the re-balance from his end…probably by withdrawing his sats from Core (OCEAN payouts) to his LND node. I’m not exactly sure what he does. He may chime in and let you know (and me) what he actually does. Regardless this setup works well for both of us.

You follow what I’m saying?

The problem with CLN is routing, which isn’t applicable in this case since the sender (Ocean in this case) creates the route. Also, since you have successfully tested receiving sats, then opening another channel probably won’t help unless there is no route from Ocean’s node to Megalith (unlikely I think). I would reach out to Ocean to see if they have any more information to help troubleshoot.

Thanks Greg, thats been very helpful. I’ve now set up my two Lightning nodes thus:
FouBaar LND

FouBaar CLN

Probably not optimised at all!

I’ll wait and see what happens with Ocean BOLT12 payouts…

@paul Thanks - I emailed Ocean yesterday (31st Aug) so waiting for reply (it’s Labor Day in the US today 1st Sept isn’t it? I won’t expect an email from them till Tuesday at the earliest)

I’m going to defer to @paul on this and let him speak…both of us are telling you something different. In my opinion his words weight more heavily than mine. I respect him a lot and he knows way more than I do.

I sent you a text chat here in the forums…just be aware of what I said and just wait to take further action.

I hope this all gets fleshed out for you. :peace_symbol:
