Mupen64Plus AE / FZ support

Hello friends, here you’ll find support for the Mupen64plus AE / FZ N64 emulator for Android.

Feel free to ask qustions and post your own guides here but please, DO NOT include links or in game assets (texture packs, internal codes etc.)

Do NOT ask about where or how about ROM’s…

Getting started: Please note that this setup guide is slightly outdated as certain features are no longer accessable on android devices since around 2020, this initial setup was written in 2016.
I will update this guide to modern standards when I have the time.

Please note that this guide is intended for helping users to set up the Mupen64plus FZ edition, as it’s the most updated version of the emulator. You can download MUPEN64PLUS FZ edition free from the Google Playstore.

  1. Introduction.

Mupen64plus FZ is a highly customisable emulator that lets you play N64 games on Android devices.

The emulator DOES NOT come with any games included. It does however read and play the N64 games - (ROMS) that you have installed on your android device’s storage.

-It is forbidden to ask how to obtain n64 roms here, a google search may help.

  1. Set-up Mupen64plus FZ

Open the Mupen64plus FZ app, it will load resources then go to the Main Menu.

The Main Menu is black with 3 Navigation keys at the top, from left to right these are:

OPTIONS. SEARCH. RELOAD.

Next you will need to set the directory path to the folder containing your N64 Roms.
(Where you have your N64 Roms saved in your android’s storage)

  1. Set Directory Path.

-This is where you set the folder that you store your Roms, for the emulator to read.

From the Main Menu, select the RELOAD icon. (The top right circular arrow)
You will see:

/storage/emulated/0

^Parent folder
Android
DCIM
Download
mupen64plus-fz
Pictures

Search zip files
Download cover art
Clear gallery before adding
Scan subdirectories

[RESET] [CANCEL] [OK]

On the part of the screen that has:

^Parent folder
Android
DCIM

-scroll down, to the “Downloads” folder, and select it.

You should see your n64 Rom inside this folder.
(You may have to scroll down to find it.)

Hit the “OK” button at the bottom right of the screen to set your Downloads folder as the directory, the emulator will scan the folder and find your game.

Now your game will appear in the main menu of Mupen64plus FZ, click on it to play the game with default settings.

*Note, you can create and rename new folders in your android’s file manager to place your Roms, instead of the ‘Downloads’ folder.
Just set the directory again to the your new folder.
