From a resources perspective, you’d want at least 32GB of RAM. Otherwise, be careful starting up after a long period of down time, and make sure one finishes syncing before starting the second one.
For storage, you’d probably want 4TB to run two full nodes (I don’t think they make 3TB drives, so that would be a niche setup – 2TB would be bumping up against full capacity with no headroom)
A pruned mode could work, but it limits your options. I don’t think Datum Gateway currently supports pruned nodes, which would limit your ability to mine on both chains.
The main open question though is if StartOS itself will be configured to support running both. It’s a bit more complex than it sounds, because you’d probably also want second copies of all the downstream services too (electrs/fulcrum, mempool, Datum Gateway, LND, etc. etc.). It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
If it’s anything like Umbrel, it shouldn’t be too complicated as long as the names are slightly different to indicate which coin they’re for. At that point they’d just be different docker containers with unique names running in parallel. From a resource perspective it’s more demanding but as long as one plans ahead for the added requirements of running a second node it should be fine.
Yes, anyone could fork any service and ship a version for the new chain. I just meant I don’t know if that will be official services maintained by Start9, or managed by users in the Community Registry (or in private registries like mine)
Yeah I guess that is the unknown here. I was surprised that there didn’t exist a graceful way of running two of the same app already when I tried playing around with testnet a few months ago. I feel like that’s something Umbrel and Start9 can fix by just allowing a single app (docker container) to be run multiple times (maybe limit it to 2) and have the OS change the name in the background so it remains unique. I guess the impetus wasn’t there and maybe now that it is, they’ll try to figure something out. I’m not holding my breath on Umbrel but Start9 might be game.
